When to Use

Exit interviews can help an employer gather information about the workplace that can lead to improvements in its operations and employee experience. Employees poised to leave the organization are in a prime position to provide candid, constructive insight into employment practices, supervisor management effectiveness and even wastes of important resources or time.

Given the importance of exit interviews and the valuable information they may provide, it is a best practice for employers to adopt a written policy regarding its preference to conduct exit interviews and to inform employees of the importance of participating in exit interviews well before they are to occur.
