Timekeeping Policy

Author: Christine P. Corrigan, CPC Writing Services

When to Use

The federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and similar state wage and hour laws require employers to maintain accurate timekeeping records and to pay nonexempt employees for all hours worked in a workweek and to pay overtime for all hours worked over 40 hours per workweek. Some states also impose daily overtime requirements. To pay employees correctly, employers must have accurate time records. An employer should consider implementing this policy to help ensure the most accurate records possible.
