Prepare for an Employee's First Day

Key Points

  • After the offer of employment has been accepted by the candidate, employers should properly prepare for the new employee's first day on the job.
  • In order to prepare for the first day, the employer should have all of the requisite new hire paperwork ready for the new employee to complete, obtain any supplies or equipment he or she may need, set up the new employee's work station and schedule the new employee for any required training, such as antidiscrimination, antiharassment training as well as any safety training.
  • Prior to the new employee's first day, HR should create an orientation checklist to ensure all tasks are completed on the new hire's first day.
