James Cowan practices law mainly in the areas of representing management in labor and employment matters and handling business and employment litigation matters. He also represents property owners and developers on land use issues.
Mr. Cowan has experience representing companies in federal and state courts across Virginia in commercial litigation. He defends clients in wrongful discharge claims under the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Family Medical Leave Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. He also specializes in the preparation of affirmative action plans and responding to OFCCP and other Department of Labor audits.
