Flexible Work 2023: Survey Report

Introduction

At the start of the pandemic, many organizations minimized in-person interactions to follow social distancing guidelines. Most employers achieved this by incorporating flexible work practices such as remote or hybrid work.

These changes will have lasting effects. Many workers have been able to effectively adapt their roles to function from home, which has caused them to question the necessity of commutes to the office. Businesses who attempt to rescind flexibility entirely risk losing their employees to competitors who will give employees more options. However, the shift toward flexible work was abrupt, and many organizations are still finding their footing in this unfamiliar landscape.

In this survey report, we investigate how workplace flexibility has increased since before the pandemic and explore the challenges employers have faced during this transition. We assess how employers are investing in resources to support changes in the infrastructure of the workforce. We also explore practices related to monitoring remote workers and reimbursing home office expenses.
