Prepare for and Conduct a Performance Review Meeting Checklist

Authors: Brightmine Editorial Team

When to Use

The performance appraisal meeting is a key part of an employer's performance management process. It provides the opportunity to provide each employee with feedback about their performance, including both their strengths and areas for improvement. Done well, a performance review can improve an employee's engagement and motivation; done poorly, the performance review can be perceived by the employee as unfair and harm their morale.

This checklist can be used by a manager to prepare for and conduct a performance review meeting that provides effective feedback to an employee and encourages continued growth and improvement. Employers do not have to complete the following steps in sequential order to properly complete the checklist. Some of the initial items may be completed concurrently or in a different order.
