Summary

  • Iowa employers must pay nonexempt employees the minimum wage for all hours worked. Iowa's regulations define the term hours worked. See Hours Worked.
  • Employers must provide breaks to employees younger than 16 in certain conditions. See Break Periods.
  • Certain requirements must be met if employers wish to avoid paying employees for time spent traveling to and from the worksite at the beginning and end of the work day in transportation provided by the employer. See Travel Time.
  • Time spent changing clothes or washing at the beginning or end of each workday may be excluded from hours worked under certain conditions. See Activities Before and After a Shift ('Preliminary and Postliminary').
