Summary

  • Florida group health plans issued to small employers with fewer than 20 employees generally must include continuation coverage. Continuation coverage generally lasts for up to 18 months (29 months in the case of disability). See Florida Continuation Coverage Law.
  • Florida's continuation coverage law has specific provisions with respect to notice and election requirements. See Notice and Election Requirements.
  • Under Florida's continuation coverage law, insurance carriers may charge up to 115 percent of the applicable group premium. In the case of disability, the carrier may charge up to 150 percent of the group rate for the 11-month disability extension. See Premiums.
  • Florida's continuation coverage law contains special provisions related to employees in the military reserve or National Guard. See Special Provisions for Employees in the Military Reserve or National Guard.
  • Florida law contains conversion privileges for individuals whose coverage terminates for any reason. See Conversion.
