  • The state of California and any California cities or counties are prohibited from requiring employers to use E-Verify as a condition of a government contract or preserving a business license. See Employment Verification.
  • California employers are prohibited from engaging in, or directing another person or entity to engage in, unfair immigration-related practices against any person for a retaliatory purpose for exercising any right protected under California's Labor Code or by any local ordinance applicable to employees.   • An employer's business license may be suspended or revoked if it threatens to report an employee's or the employee's family member's suspected citizenship or immigration status in retaliation of the employee engaging in protected conduct. See Business Licenses.
