How does succession planning link back to other employer HR processes and programs?

A comprehensive succession planning process will effectively integrate a number of existing HR initiatives, including:

  • Talent assessment and acquisition;
  • Performance management;
  • Individual development planning; and
  • Career pathing.

In addition, conclusions about an individual's status coming out of the process will provide input to decisions about how to compensate and reward succession candidates. Finally, not all succession candidates will choose to remain with the employer, so a feedback loop through exit interviews becomes important.
