How will a merger or acquisition affect HR?

A merger or acquisition can have a tremendous affect on HR because the company that emerges from the merger or acquisition might be very different than the company that went into it. That means a different corporate culture, different employee compensation and benefit protocols, different management styles, different employee incentive structures, different measurements of corporate success and different risk management strategies, among other changes. HR's responsibility in a merger or acquisition is to assess the above before the merger or acquisition begins in order to identify risk, prepare employees by sharing information and encouraging open communication among employees and with HR.
