If an employee is at-will, an employer may terminate the employment relationship at any time, and for any reason that does not violate state or federal laws. This includes an employer's decision to rescind an offer of employment. However, where an employee can establish that he or she relied on an employer's offer of employment, for example, by relocating or giving notice to their former employer, it could result in liability to the employer if the offer is withdrawn.
