What do the states do with the new hire information reported by an employer?

All states compare the new employee report information against their state's report of child support records. If a match is found, the state may issue a Withholding Order to an employer to withhold child support from an employee's wages. States also send the reports to the National Directory of New Hires (NDNH) and Federal Case Registry (FCR). Those agencies then search for matches between states.
