Coronavirus (COVID-19): Stay-at-Home Orders and Reopening Plans by State

When the coronavirus pandemic first hit the US, state governments across the country implemented stay-at-home orders and required many non-essential businesses to close.

Gradually states began easing or ending their stay-at-home orders and allowing businesses to reopen and activities to resume. Many states used a phased approach to reopening and provided specific guidelines for employers.

The following chart provides the status of each state's stay-at-home orders, a synopsis of its reopening status and links to government reopening guidelines and resources relevant to private employers.

For information on each state's face-covering (e.g., mask) requirements, please see Coronavirus (COVID-19): Face-Covering Requirements by State.
