Work-Share/Short-Time Compensation Programs by State

Author: XpertHR Editorial Team

Work-share programs, also known as work-sharing, shared-work or short-time compensation, provide employers with an alternative to layoffs when business slows down. Work-share programs are voluntary and allow an employer to retain its employees by reducing their work hours. Affected employees may collect partial unemployment insurance benefits while working the reduced hours.

The following chart identifies the states that have established a work-share program. The Jurisdiction column includes links to additional information. States that have not established a program are marked No.
