Webinar - Employee Mental Health and the Americans with Disabilities Act

Date: Wednesday, August 17
Time: 2PM ET

Mental illness is one of the leading causes of disability in the United States. With approximately 1 in 5 U.S. adults experiencing mental illness each year, there is a strong chance employers will encounter situations involving employees with mental health issues. This has been especially true with the multitude of social, health and political challenges all around us, leading to 76% of surveyed employees in 2021 reporting at least one symptom of a mental health challenge, compared to 59% in 2019.

Complying with requirements of the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) can be a fundamental step in addressing and supporting the needs of an employee’s with a mental health disability to enable them to be productive. In this 60-minute webinar, Sharon Rennert, Senior Attorney Advisor in the EEOC’s ADA/GINA Division, will discuss how to address and accommodate employees with mental health disabilities under the ADA.

Attendees will learn:

  • When a mental health issue qualifies as a disability;
  • How to work with an employee to find a reasonable accommodation;
  • Challenges to addressing mental health conditions in the workplace; and
  • Best practices to avoid liability and create a supportive work environment.
