US Jurisdictions

Federal

The US Department of Labor (DOL) enforces federal labor laws in the United States. When federal and state law provisions conflict, employers must follow the provision that provides the highest standard of protection to employees. Each state’s department of labor is responsible for enforcing both federal and state laws within its jurisdiction.

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and, if applicable, designated state fair employment practices agencies have jurisdiction over employment discrimination issues.
