California Education and Training Provisions Take Effect for Talent Agencies

Implementation Date: January 1, 2019

California law imposes training requirements on talent agencies licensed by the state. Effective January 1, 2019, a talent agency licensed by the state must:

  • Make available educational materials regarding sexual harassment prevention, retaliation and reporting resources to an adult artist. At a minimum, the materials must include the components specified in the Department of Fair Employment and Housing's Form 185;
  • Make available educational materials regarding nutrition and eating disorders to adult model artists; and
  • Request and retain a copy of a minor's entertainment work permit prior to representing or sending a minor artist on an audition, meeting or interview for engagement of the minor's services. In order to obtain a work permit, an age-eligible minor's parent or guardian must receive and complete training on sexual harassment prevention, retaliation and reporting resources.
