Denver, Colorado, Expands Human Rights Ordinance

Implementation Date: January 29, 2020

Effective January 29, 2020, amendments to the Denver Human Rights Ordinance (Ordinance):

  • Expand coverage to employers with 10 or more employees (previously 20 or more);
  • Expand discrimination protections to individuals based on gender expression, gender identity, ethnicity, citizenship and immigration status;
  • Clarify definitions for disability status, sex and sexual orientation; and
  • Clarify protections for individuals based on pregnancy, childbirth and related conditions and reasonable accommodation requirements.
