Connecticut's minimum wage will increase to $10.10 by 2017 under new legislation signed into law March 27. 2014 Bill Text CT S.B. 32.

Last year, Connecticut enacted a law that increased the state minimum wage from $8.25 to $8.70 on January 1, 2014. Last year's law also would have increased the minimum wage to $9.00 on January 1, 2015. But instead, the new law will raise the minimum wage by an additional 15 cents, to $9.15 on January 1, 2015, followed by an increase to $9.60 on January 1, 2016, and another increase to $10.10 on January 1, 2017.

"This legislation is about making sure that people working full-time and supporting families aren't living in poverty," Governor Dannel P. Malloy said in a statement. "The extra money that these folks earn will be put back into our economy and help our communities. I am proud that Connecticut is once again a leader on an issue of national importance."

Connecticut's minimum wage already is among the highest in the nation, and the planned increases will likely keep it there for years to come.
