When to Use

Charitable giving and employer involvement in charitable organizations and activities can have a positive impact on employee relations and morale, while also helping the community the employer is connected to. All of this can result in positive feelings toward the employer and an enhanced public perception. Giving campaigns can also be part of a branding or marketing effort if the campaign is linked to the employer's business or industry. Moreover, in selecting a giving campaign employers can further or broaden their organization's existing goals. For these reasons, many an employer may seek to encourage charitable giving and activities. However, it is important to have a comprehensive policy detailing whether, how and under what circumstances an employer will contribute to charities.

On the other hand, an employer may choose to prohibit employees from personally soliciting other employees to donate to a specific charity as this may lead to employees feeling pressured or harassed.
