Emergency Procedures Policy

Author: Leanne Coffman

When to Use

When an emergency occurs in the workplace, prompt and appropriate actions are required to safely manage the situation. Having a written Emergency Procedures Policy can help reduce confusion in crisis situations and improve an organization's response to natural disasters, fires, medical emergencies and other challenging events.

This policy is not a substitute for the more detailed, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)-required Emergency Action Plan (EAP) or state-required emergency plans, but employers should consider implementing this policy to communicate their emergency procedures to employees, including managers, and to facilitate employer and employee actions during workplace emergencies.
