When to Use

Many employers choose to adopt a policy on workplace smoking because of concerns of non-smokers, clients, and customers about secondhand smoke. Also, many states and municipalities have enacted laws to regulate smoking in and around the workplace. Adopting, implementing, and enforcing an Employee Smoking Policy allows employers to ensure that all employees are in compliance with state and local laws and that there is no confusion about what is, and is not, permitted.
