Prepare for an Act of Violence Checklist

Author: XpertHR Editorial Team

When to Use

The Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) requires employers to provide a workplace free from known safety and health hazards and considers violence a recognized hazard. Because no employer can predict when or how incidents of violence may occur, all employers should draft and implement a written workplace violence policy and emergency action plan (EAP) for potential acts of workplace violence before anything happens. Incidents of workplace violence are best handled when written policies are in place and appropriate responses have been effectively and clearly communicated to employees.

An employer may use the following checklist to effectively prepare for acts of workplace violence. The following steps do not have to be completed in sequential order to properly complete the checklist.
