Remote Work Policy

When to Use

There are numerous reasons employers might allow employees to work remotely on either a part- or full-time basis, given the various benefits that may be realized: a reduction in overhead expenses; better employee attraction and retention; improved employee productivity (there are often fewer interruptions at home than at the office); greater flexibility for employees; increased available work time (gained by the absence of a commute); and fewer productivity losses due to weather, construction or other circumstances that may prevent employees from coming into the office. Additionally, working remotely (i.e., telecommuting) can be an option offered as a reasonable accommodation in the case of an individual with a disability.

A written policy helps employees understand under what circumstances remote work might be an option, and the parameters for such an arrangement.
