When to Use

An employer may want to monitor employee telephone calls for a variety of reasons, including employee productivity, customer service and employee conduct compliance. If an employer plans to monitor employee telephone calls, the employer should have a policy informing employees of their intent to do so. Federal law permits an employer to monitor employee telephone calls in the ordinary course of business. An employer is generally not permitted to monitor employee personal telephone calls.
