Charitable Activity Policy

Author: Jessica Sussman

When to Use

Charitable giving and employer involvement in charitable organizations and activities can have a positive impact on employee relations and morale, while also helping the community to which the employer is connected. Giving campaigns can also be part of a branding or marketing effort if the campaign is linked to the employer's business or industry.

For these reasons, an employer may seek to encourage charitable giving and activities. However, it is important to have a comprehensive policy detailing whether, how and under what circumstances an employer will contribute to charities. An employer also may choose to prohibit employees from personally soliciting other employees to donate to a specific charity as this may lead to employees feeling pressured or harassed.
