Implement an Email and Internet Use Policy
Reasons to implement an email and internet policy include securing trade secrets and confidential information, preventing lawsuits based on harassing or discriminatory behavior, maintaining a productive workplace and protecting the integrity of computer systems and equipment.
Ensure the policy conveys that all employer-provided communication and information systems are to be solely used for legitimate business purposes and that the employer has a right to review, monitor and access all employee emails and internet activity.
Advise employees that there is no reasonable expectation of privacy when using employer communication and information systems. To avoid potential claims, have employees acknowledge and provide consent to email and internet monitoring.
