Make an Employment Offer
- An employer should confirm a verbal job offer in a written letter that includes all the terms and conditions that were verbally stated. Offer letters should be clear, unambiguous and concise.
- If an at-will employment relationship is intended, an employer should avoid statements that set expectations for a particular time period or regarding length of employment. Otherwise, such statements may alter the employment relationship.
- The employment offer could be conditioned upon the successful completion of additional requirements, such as a background check, medical exam and/or drug test.
