Search Employee Vehicles
- An employer may generally search an employee's personal vehicle parked on the employer's property if employees are notified, by either a policy or sign, that by entering the property, they agree that their vehicles are subject to search. An employer may not search an employee's personal vehicle if the vehicle is parked on a public street.
- An employer has a right to search employer-provided vehicles used by employees.
- Before conducting any search, there must be a reasonable suspicion of job-related misconduct to assure that the search is necessary.
- Any vehicle searches should be limited in scope.
