Are there certain procedures to follow when terminating a union employee?

Generally, a collective bargaining agreement contains provisions that prohibit an employer from disciplining or terminating an employee except for "just cause." Often, these agreements will provide for progressive discipline for all but the most serious offenses, meaning that the employer will have to provide oral and written counseling, and even suspensions, before terminating the employee.
