How may an employer enhance its methods of job evaluation?

Job evaluation is the process of assessing jobs to ensure internal pay equity as well as external competitiveness in the marketplace. The key to effective job evaluation is understanding and documenting the essential functions and job-related qualification requirements that are being graded and of any other jobs that are identical, essentially the same, or similar.
Employers can enhance their methods of job evaluation by making sure that the job analyst doing the evaluation thoroughly understands the work being evaluated. The analyst should review the current job description, observe the actual work as it is being performed and conduct interviews with incumbents and supervisors prior to executing the evaluation.
