Should an employer conduct a self-inspection of its workplace to make sure there are no safety hazards?

Yes. Under the General Duty Clause, each employer is required to inspect for known hazards in the workplace and to remove those known hazards from the workplace. Performing a complete and formal self-inspection is one way to perform this obligation. It also demonstrates to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) the employer's good-faith effort to create workplace safety and health.
