When to Use
An employer may ask an employee to provide medical documentation to support a request for an accommodation under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Information provided by the employee's health care provider can:
- Confirm or elaborate on information provided by the employee;
- Help determine whether the requested accommodation would pose an undue hardship; or
- Provide ideas for other reasonable accommodations.
