Should employers use recommendations for job applicants that are posted on LinkedIn and other social media sites?

Since an employer has no way of knowing if these unsanctioned recommendations accurately reflect an applicant, it generally is not recommended to use them.

On another note, an employee who is terminated for performance reasons may later claim that the employer's explanation for the discharge was false and point to a supervisor's LinkedIn recommendation as evidence to support the claim.
