Vermont Enacts Social Media Privacy Law

Vermont has passed a social media privacy law. +2017 Bill Text VT H.B. 462. The law contains privacy protections for employees and applicants with respect to their personal social media accounts.

The law limits the types of requests for information that an employer may make of an employee or applicant. An employer that violates the provisions of the law may be liable under the state's Fair Employment Practices Act.
