Indiana Veterans Preference Law to Take Effect

Implementation Date: July 1, 2015

Effective July 1, 2015, private employers in Indiana will be permitted to implement a veterans preference employment policy providing preference to covered veterans over another qualified applicant or employee when it comes to decisions regarding hiring, promotion or retention during a reduction in force. The new law provides that an employer may give preference to veterans in hiring or promoting without violating state and local fair employment laws.
