How can an employer prevent cyberbullying in the workplace?

Author: Jill Gormley, Strong and Clear Communications

To prevent cyberbullying in the workplace, an employer should implement a zero tolerance policy against workplace bullying and advise supervisors, employees and managers that any cyberbullying or bullying through email or social media that takes place using employer-provided equipment or networks will not be tolerated and that violators will be appropriately punished.

An employer should also effectively train employees and supervisors on what behavior constitutes cyberbullying and on acceptable and unacceptable use of the internet, email and the employer's communications systems.

Further, an employer should encourage both supervisors and employees to report any instances of cyberbullying experienced or witnessed.
