- District of Columbia employers are not required to provide life insurance benefits. If life insurance benefits are provided, certain requirements must be met. See Group Life Insurance.
- Employees are entitled to a minimum grace period for any premium due, except the first. See Grace Period.
- Employees have the right to convert a group life insurance policy to an individual life insurance policy under some circumstances. See Conversion Rights.
- The District of Columbia has enacted the Universal Paid Leave Amendment Act of 2016, which provides employees with paid parental, family and medical leave benefits that are funded by employer contributions. See Paid Family and Medical Leave Insurance.
