BYOD or Bring Your Own Device is the name given to the practice whereby employers permit employees to bring their own personal mobile devices such as iphones, ipads, laptops, tablets, blackberries, cell phones, etc. to work and encourage employees to use such devices for business-related purposes and to access employer intranets and information. Although there may be significant benefits to allowing employees to engage in BYOD, there are also significant risks associated with it. As a result it is important for employers to have a BYOD policy in place and to know how to effectively manage BYOD in the workplace by following the steps below:
