When to Use

Although paid parental leave is not required under federal law, some employers may choose to provide such leave for their employees.

Whether an employer has chosen to or is required to offer parental leave (even unpaid), the employer should provide employees with a policy that includes clear guidance as to whether and when they are eligible for parental leave, how and when to request parental leave, compensation and benefits while on leave and their rights upon return from leave.
