There are a number of issues retailers face when it comes to compensating employees and complying with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) including overtime, employee classification, hours worked and minimum wage. For example, the overtime exemption for commissioned salespersons is often applied in the retail sector. Additionally, full-time students employed in retail or service establishments may be paid a sub-minimum wage.
