Federal law and guidance on this subject should be reviewed together with this section.

Author: Gloria Ju

Summary

  • When extending a job offer, employers in Alaska must take care not to make statements that alter the employment at-will relationship. See Making an Employment Offer.
  • Employers may condition employment offers on the completion of additional requirements, such as drug tests, genetic tests, lie detector tests, background checks and signing restrictive covenants, but they must be sure to abide by applicable state laws. See Conditional Employment Offers.
  • Withdrawing a job offer could result in a promissory estoppel or detrimental reliance claim. See Withdrawal of the Employment Offer.
