Louisiana Requirements Complete

Our Louisiana Employment Law Coverage

XpertHR covers the complete spectrum of labor and employment law for Louisiana employers. For example, did you know:

  • As of July 1, 2012, all employers must file Form L1, Employer's Quarterly Return of Louisiana Withholding Tax, for each quarter, by the last day of the month following the close of the quarterly reporting period. Employers required to remit withheld taxes electronically must file a separate Form L1 electronically.
  • Louisiana law does not prohibit employers from refusing to hire based on pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions, but does provide some protections to such employees.
  • All employers with one or more employees are required by law to provide for workers' compensation insurance benefits, except those that are able to participate in a group self-insurance pool, those who are able to self-insure on their own and those that are exempted by statute.
  • Employers that fail to designate paydays must pay employees on the first and sixteenth days of the month or as near to those dates as possible. Employers engaged in manufacturing, oil drilling or mining operations that have at least 10 employees, and all public service corporations, must pay nonexempt employees on a semimonthly or biweekly basis. Penalties are imposed for violations.
