Sponsoring Foreign Workers for Visas: New Checklists Added to Immigration and Visa Content

In this global economy, multinational employers are transferring executives and managers to US offices, and small business owners hire foreign citizens for their workplace. There are many different types of visas depending on an individual's profession and whether the individual intends to come to the US temporarily or permanently. Two commonly used visas are:

  • The H-1B visa, which allows an employer to temporarily employ a foreign worker in a specialty occupation such as engineering or computer programming; and
  • The L visa, which allows a foreign worker employed by an international company with offices in both the US and abroad to relocate to the corporation's US office after having worked abroad for the company for at least one continuous year within the previous three prior to admission in the US.
