Political Activity Policy

When to Use
While employees have freedom of speech rights that permit them to express their political views and are permitted to engage in collective action to improve employment conditions under Section 7 of the National Labor Relations Act, employers also have a right to regulate employee conduct in the workplace. Further, some state and local laws address political activity in the workplace. In an effort to minimize workplace disruption and make sure that employees are focused on their jobs, employers may prohibit employees from engaging in political activity during the work day. A political activity policy will detail the restrictions imposed on employees and provide notice of permissible activities.
