Seattle, Washington Paid Sick and Safe Time Model Policy
Entity Mandating Policy: Seattle Office for Civil Rights, Office of Labor Standards.
Applicability: Employers with at least one employee working in Seattle are covered by the notice provisions of the Paid Sick and Safe Time Ordinance.
When to Provide: Effective April 1, 2016, an employer must provide employees with written notice of its policies and procedures for meeting the paid sick and safe leave law's requirements, including:
- The employer's choice of benefit year;
- Tier size;
- Rate of accrual, use and carryover of paid sick and safe time hours;
- Manner of providing employees with an updated amount of available paid sick and safe time hours each time wages are paid; and
- Notification requirements for absences and requesting leave.
Obtaining This Model Policy: The agency will create and distribute a model policy that employers may use to comply with this notice requirement. Once the model policy is issued, an employer may download it directly from the Seattle Office for Civil Rights website.
