The FMLA: California, Other Leaves: California and Managing Employees in Special Situations sections of the Employment Law Manual have been updated to reflect an amendment to the FFWO that clarifies which employers must comply with the FFWO.

Under the amendment, a covered employer is described as an employer with 20 or more employees anywhere (i.e., not limited to employees working in San Francisco). Therefore, if an employer has less than 20 employees working in San Francisco, but 50 employees working in Washington, that employer is subject to the FFWO. The effective date of the amendment is February 14, 2014.
