Oregon Social Media Privacy Law Amended: Employment Law Manual Updated, Legal Timetable Entry Added
Authors: XpertHR Editorial Team
Oregon's social media law has been amended to prohibit an employer from requiring employees or applicants to (1) establish or maintain personal social media accounts; or (2) authorize the employer to advertise on their personal social media accounts, effective January 1, 2016. An employer also will be prohibited from taking or threatening to take adverse action against an employee or failing to hire an applicant because he or she refused to establish or maintain a personal social media account.
Based on this development, the following sections of the Oregon Employment Law Manual have been updated:
- Employee Privacy;
- Employment Offer;
- Employee Discipline; and
- Interviewing and Selecting Job Candidates.
A Legal Timetable entry has also been added.
